On June 8, in Ukraine, the share of clean energy (nuclear, hydro, wind, solar, biogeneration) in the energy balance reached 87.4%. That is, almost 9 out of 10 kilowatt hours consumed in Ukraine were produced without CO 2 emissions , the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reports .
In terms of the level of development of the carbon-free generation, Ukraine is at the same level and sometimes even exceeds the corresponding indicators of the EU countries. Thus, in 2021, the weighted average share of the carbon-free energy mix of the EU countries was 63%, and in Ukraine it reached 70%.
For example, in Germany on June 8, the share of net electricity was 44%, the rest was covered by the use of natural gas and coal.
And although the Ministry of Energy does not provide a more detailed distribution, there is no doubt that the share of nuclear energy in the overall structure of clean energy remains the highest. Usually, in the autumn-winter periods, the share of nuclear energy, which is still the cheapest, in the total generation reaches 70%.
It can be recalled that at the end of January 2022, for the first time in the history of the nuclear energy industry of Ukraine , all 15 nuclear power units started working simultaneously . In March, Tesla and SpaceX leader Elon Musk urged Europe to launch nuclear power plants for the sake of national and international security.
At the end of May, the European Commission approved a plan for an accelerated phase-out of Russian energy carriers called REPowerEU, which provides for additional investments in energy in the amount of 210 billion euros by 2027.
