It’s no secret that over the years, Apple has been investing billions of dollars to develop its own 5G modem for the iPhone in order to gain independence from Qualcomm. The share of chips in the latest iPhone in 2023, according to the calculations of Cupertino, should have dropped to 20%, but a new study by reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo sounds disappointing. He claims that Apple’s attempts to create its own 5G chip “failed”. Thus, for at least another couple of years, Qualcomm will be swimming in money, remaining the only and indispensable supplier of 5G modems for apple smartphones. Despite the fact that the proportion of Snapdragon modems in the iPhone 15 will be 100%, the analyst is confident that Apple will continue to develop its own 5G solutions.
