The State Service for Special Communications continues to issue recommendations that allow you to counter threats in cyberspace, use phones, the Internet, etc. safely. This time, the service specialists answered the question of what to do in case of loss or theft of a smartphone.
Today, phones are not only a means of communication, but also a “storage” of many different important data: we store documents in “DI”, we receive services with a gadget in banks, we make purchases on the Internet and much more. If you lose your mobile phone, you must follow these steps to protect your information:
1. First of all, notify your operator of the theft so that he blocks the SIM card.
Kyivstar ( https://kyivstar.ua/no-war ): you can provide information to the operator by calling 466 (within the Kyivstar network) or 0800-300-466 from other numbers.
Vodafone ( https://www.vodafone.ua/support/faq ): you need to apply by calling 222 (free from Vodafone Ukraine) or 0 800 400 222 (free from all networks in Ukraine).
Lifecell ( https://www.lifecell.ua/en/pidtrimka/pitannya-v-kategoriyi/?category=118 ): you can call the Information and Advice Center 5433 or 0 8003 20 5433. Or use the My LifeCell independent living system or contact the Subscriber Service Center.
Please note: Operators usually ask for additional information such as the PUK code or the numbers you frequently call, etc.
2. Change passwords for all your accounts (Google, social networks, online banking, Diya, etc.) through another device.
3. Block bank cards that have money and credit limits so that intruders cannot use your finances. To do this, contact the bank’s hotline, branch or use online banking.
4. Be sure to contact the police.
5. Warn your friends that you have lost your phone : play it safe in case the attackers start begging for money on your behalf.
All smartphone users should take care of preventive measures that will make your life easier in case of loss of a smartphone:
- Find the PUK code from the SIM card.
- Write down the IMEI in a secure phone.
- For accounts where possible, set up a backup recovery phone number.
- Don’t forget to back up all your important data regularly.
- Link your phone number to your passport.
- Keep important contact numbers in more than just your phone book.
