The Ministry of Digital Development, together with the Ministry of Culture, is launching a new online survey on the decommunization of the famous Motherland monument in Kiev in the Diya public services application . In particular, there is a question about the future fate of the coat of arms of the USSR on the shield of the highest monument in Europe and the authorities want to hear the opinion of society before making any decision.
Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, among other positive changes in society, has significantly accelerated the process of ridding the country of Soviet symbols and other imperialist Russian culture. Throughout the country, a “soft” de-Russification is in full swing – with the renaming of Russian toponyms and the dismantling of Soviet monuments. And now the turn has come to the “Motherland”, which, as many believe, should also be renamed (among the new names in social networks, for example, the Shield of Europe is offered).
You can vote in the poll about the future fate of the shield of the Motherland monument for several – in the “Services” section, you need to go to “Poll” and choose 1 of the 3 proposed options:
- we leave everything as it is;
- we remove the Soviet coat of arms and leave the shield clean – after the victory we will choose what to place there;
- we replace it with the Trident – the State Emblem of Ukraine.
The survey will last 14 days. The results will be announced on July 21st.
Last time, the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted an online survey in Diya on the circulation of firearms among the civilian population – more than 1.7 million Ukrainians took part in it, which was an absolute record, and 59% of respondents supported the idea.
Online surveys in Diya appeared in early February 2022 . This is a new service for the development of e-democracy in the country, which has been tested with a limited circle of participants since the end of last year. A survey among users of “Diya” will help the authorities to find out the opinion of people, and the team – to develop new services. In the future, the Ministry of Digital Development plans to implement online elections . The Ministry of Digital Development has been tirelessly talking about the system of electronic elections, which will allow voting online, over the past few years – work in this direction has been ongoing since at least 2020.
