The third season of the insane superhero series The Boys has wrapped up on Amazon Prime Video. The creator of “Supernatural” Eric Kripke managed to bring the already reckless project to a new level of craziness and cruelty. Before the start of the season, the showrunner hinted at complete freedom of action from the bosses of the service, which can be seen literally in the first minutes of the first episode. We have already watched the full season and are ready to share our impressions.

A year has passed since the season 2 finale. Huey (Jack Quaid) lives with Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and works at the newly formed Bureau of Superhero Control. He oversees a team of Butcher (Karl Urban), Frenchman (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). Together they catch bad supers and put them in jail. But Marvin (Laz Alonso) has retired and is trying to improve relations with his daughter. Victoria Newman (Claudia Dumit) was appointed head of the Bureau. Huey does not know that she is the same super who blew people’s heads in previous seasons, but unexpectedly becomes a witness to another of her murders.
Butcher is still obsessed with revenge on Homelander (Anthony Starr), who is going through hard times due to the scandal surrounding his former Nazi lover Stormfront. Along with this, the team learns about a certain secret weapon that supposedly killed Soldier, the first superhero equal in strength to Homelander. And Queen Maeve gives the Butcher a new drug, Vought, which makes super people out of people, but only for a day.
The two paragraphs above are only a small part of the problems the writers posed to the characters. Each character has a super-serious task, so the first few episodes do not develop the plot, but pose more and more problems for the heroes. But then the intensity of passions, the madness and speed of what is happening amaze even the most sophisticated imagination of the viewer, and most of the main characters cross the line of no return and become on the same level with the vile supers. The last episodes blur the line between antagonists and protagonists, and this is exactly what distinguished the boys from the supers.
Steep plot twists, sudden twists and ornateness of the story have not gone away. The final came out as lively and spectacular as possible, it already announced the problems of the next season, but it was then that the embarrassment happened.
There was no logic in the actions of some characters, but this made it possible for the creators to make a powerful plot for a sequel. True, this was also feared by the fans – so that the series would not drag out longer than necessary. So far, The Boys has a lot to talk about in season four. But scriptwriters need to learn not to “tie” the characters so clearly hand and foot so that they continue to solve their problems further, although everything said that everything would happen now.
“The Boys” is still delighting with great acting. The facial expressions of Butcher and Homelander are impeccable. Their faces are not only an occasion for laughter, but also detailed transmitters of the deep emotions of the characters. Cool copes with his role of Chace Crawford – his super depth is already easily drawn to the best dramatic hero of the series. And newcomer Jensen Ackles in the role of Soldier perfectly joined the team of local madmen.
After the first season of The Boys, fans feared that the project would become poppy over time, reduce the degree of insanity, nudity and harsh mockery of the superhero as a whole. The second season showed that they were wrong, and the third gave reason not to doubt themselves even more. So already in the first episode, the creators showed such a wild, disgusting, insanely perverse and amazing sex murder scene, in front of which everything that you saw in The Boys fades before. And this is just the beginning. Next will be the heads of the male genital organ in full screen, gerorgia – the annual congress of supers for group sex with the most daring representatives of the porn business, Homelander’s overly humiliating and sophisticated treatment of Depth, a series of brutal mass and single murders, cartoon inserts in the style of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and etc.
The Boys did not stop mocking the problems of modern American society, the total power of corporations, the mass popularity of superhero movies and all kinds of attempts by companies to make money on it. There is also a cool cameo here, ridiculing former presidents, mocking Zack Snyder’s Justice League, mocking the writing of books by famous people, and dozens of subtle but painful jokes of our time.
