Samsung, being a pioneer and undisputed leader in the foldable smartphone segment, has put a lot of effort into their development and popularization. Marking the 10th anniversary of the concept of foldable smartphones, Tae Moon Roh (TM Roh), president of the company’s mobile business, decided to speak about the vision for the future of this direction. According to the top manager, the moment has already come when foldable smartphones have become mainstream (the main, predominant trend in the market). This statement is based on 10 million foldable devices shipped in 2021, which is three times more than in 2020, and therefore Moon Ro expects further rapid growth this year and next – not least due to the upcoming new Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4.
And although the focus was initially on the Fold model, the buyer preferred the Flip series: Samsung admits that it accounted for 70% of sales last year against 30% for the Fold. Whether the new Galaxy Z, in which every detail has been improved, will be able to impress and spur the trend, we will find out at the event on August 10th.
