Sajid Javid persuades Sky reporter to get booster and walks him to get vaccine after interview

The Health Secretary persuaded a journalist to get his booster and walked him to get his vaccine after being interviewed.

Sajid Javid was being quizzed on Sky News by the broadcaster’s Chief Political Correspondent Jon Craig near St Thomas’s Hospital in Westminster on Monday night.

The pair were chatting as they prepared for the interview outside the vaccination centre when Mr Javid asked the journalist if he had been for his booster jab.

He explained that he got Covid whilst covering the Hartlepool by-election and therefore believed he wasn’t eligible for his third dose until Dec 14.

The Health Secretary pointed out that the rule changes mean he was now allowed to get his booster, and set about trying to convincing Mr Craig to get topped up.

Initially asking the reporter to promise to come back next week to get it done, Mr Javid then realised that the vaccination centre was still open, and that there might be space for walk-ins.

Mr Craig pointed out that he needed to get back to work, to which the Health Secretary said: “No, no. I’ll tell the office.”

After the interview, Mr Javid asked if Mr Craig wanted to be accompanied to the clinic.

“Come on, I’ll walk in with you. Let’s do it,” the Health Secretary said.

The exchange was captured on camera, and video footage showed the pair walking side-by-side into the vaccination centre.

Mr Craig got his booster there and then, his colleague said.
