In May, the Planet Labs satellite recorded an increase in mass graves near Mariupol, in particular, in the urban-type settlement of Stary Krym.
The Russian military continues to attract local residents for burial, who are forced to agree to work for food, water and medicines, which are still not enough in Mariupol .
Satellite imagery of Planet Labs for May 8, which is available to “Schemes” (Radio Liberty), recorded an increase in mass graves.
“The Planet Labs satellite recorded the greatest changes in May in the urban-type settlement of Stary Krym, northwest of Mariupol. In the May 8 satellite image, the mass grave site at the local cemetery has increased from 200 meters to more than 340 meters in length compared to the April 24 image of this area … The number of trenches has also increased,” the report says.
The mass grave site has also increased in the cemetery near the village of Vinogradnoye, east of Mariupol.
In particular, on May 6, the Planet Labs satellite recorded the appearance of new trenches – in comparison with satellite images of this territory published on April 21.
Recall that the American company Maxar published pictures showing mass graves in Mangush. They are 20 times more than in Bucha. According to preliminary estimates, from 3,000 to 9,000 Mariupol residents may be buried in a mass grave.
