Instagram’s sensitive content management feature now applies to more areas of the social network. It’s no longer limited to the Explore page, but enabled everywhere where Instagram recommendations are offered, including the feed, search, hashtag pages, Reels, and potentially interesting accounts.
As before, Instagram offers you to choose one of three switches that set a different level of content filtering. But the service changed the names of these items. Now instead of “Allow”, “Restrict” and “Restrict even more”, the options “More”, “Standard” and “Less” are available. The default is “Standard” settings, which allow you to see “some sensitive content” on the platform. Selecting “More” will show the most sensitive content, while “Less” is the most restrictive of the three options.
Instagram says the new notation should better explain what each setting provides. The platform defines sensitive content as “topics that some people don’t want to see, such as violence or drugs.” However, the support page offers a more detailed description. Such content includes sexually explicit or obscene content, posts that promote tobacco or vaping products, and content that shows or promotes beauty treatments.
In this case, the filtering options apply to all topics, and do not act selectively. Thus, there is no way for users to agree to view content with nudity, but to opt out of being shown content with weapons or smoking. Also, even if you select the “More” option, this does not mean that Instagram will show all the content you upload. The platform continues to remove posts that violate its guidelines and community guidelines.
