Russia’s victory in Donbas may not be enough for Putin, so the Russian president intends to wage a long-term war in Ukraine, hoping that the US and Europe will subsequently “lose resolve” in countering such aggression.
Also, Putin is likely to declare martial law in the Russian Federation and resolve the war in the occupied territory of Moldova.
This was stated by the head of the US National Intelligence Avril Haynes, speaking in the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate of the US Congress.
According to her, Putin decided to extend the hostilities to the territory of the Russian-controlled Transnistria. At the same time, the head of American intelligence did not specify whether the Russian Federation now has the potential to fulfill such a whim of the head of the Kremlin.
Also, US intelligence learned that martial law could be introduced in Russia in order to mobilize forces in the confrontation against Ukraine.
“We assume that President Putin is preparing for a longer conflict in Ukraine, during which he also wants to achieve goals outside the Donbass,” Haynes said.
She added that Putin hopes that the resolve of Europe and the United States to counter Russian aggression will weaken over time.
Let us remind you that in Belarus they announced that they are deploying units of special operations forces in the south, allegedly because of “a group of 20,000 created by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
