The number of people who fled Ukraine to escape the Russian invasion has exceeded 6 million. This is the biggest refugee crisis in Europe since the end of World War II.
According to the latest report from the International Organization for Migration, Russia’s invasion has resulted in a massive displacement of people, including more than 8 million Ukrainians. According to the UN, as of May 11, 6.03 million people left Ukraine.
It is reported by Reuters with reference to the UN Refugee Agency.
Most of the refugees crossed the borders of the European Union through checkpoints in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, where volunteers and authorities tried to help them find accommodation and provide support.
More than 3.3 million people, mostly women and children, have crossed the border into Poland. The Polish government estimates that about half could stay in the country for a long time. And that creates problems for the housing market, schools and health care systems.
Recall that in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia , 4.8 million jobs have been lost.
