Mobile operator Vodafone Ukraine has launched the Geosearch service. It is positioned as a solution for finding the whereabouts of loved ones.

The service allows you to find out where a person is. For this, the technological capabilities of the Vodafone mobile network are used. To use the service, you do not need to install any applications. Also, the subscriber whose location the user wants to know does not need to have access to the Internet. The information is sent via SMS.

To start using the Geosearch service, you need to receive confirmation from the person whose location is planned to be viewed. For this you need:

  • send an SMS with the text Start to number 5500
  • in response to SMS, provide the phone number of the person whose permission you need to obtain

After obtaining permission, you can at any time check where the loved one is. To do this, you need to send an SMS to the number 5500 with the text “Poshuk” and the number of the person you want to find. For example, “Poshuk +380ХХХХХХХХХ”. In response, you will receive a message with the coordinates: “The subscriber +380ХХХХХХХХ on 05/31/22 at 15:10 was in the following radius: and sent for medical assistance”. Location data is provided with an approximate radius of 3 km. The map will also show the date and time the location was determined.

Maximum five numbers can be connected to the service. The permission granted will be valid for 30 days. After each request to view the location of the subscriber, he will receive an SMS reminder: “Subscriber +380ХХХХХХХХ is looking over your location”.

The Geopoisk service has been available to all Vodafone subscribers since September 7 and is still in test mode. From 07.09.2022 to 24.11.2022 it will be provided free of charge. The service operates throughout the territory of Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied territories, and is not available abroad. More detailed information about the service is available on the operator ‘s website.
