Activision has officially announced that Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will be released on November 16th. It will bring the environment, gameplay, and technology of Modern Warfare II to the large-scale battlefield.
Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 will mark a turning point for the Call of Duty franchise, with an emphasis on cross-progression and shared technology across its various iterations. Modern Warfare II releases on October 28th, just a few weeks before Warzone 2.0. Both games will use the same new version of the IW engine.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will serve as a multiplayer expansion for Modern Warfare II, which takes place in the fictional West Asian region of Al Mazra. Battle Royale has received a reworked end game mechanic, where instead of a narrowing circle, several safety zones will be used, which will merge into one by the end of the match. Also being introduced is a new sandbox called DMZ and an updated Gulag where dead players can fight for a chance to return to the match in 2v2 skirmishes.
The AI mechanics in Warzone 2.0 will be taken from Modern Warfare II, which promises more realistic enemy behavior. Both games will use the Ricochet Anti-Cheat system at the kernel level.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will be free to play.
However, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is due out next year for Android and iOS platforms. It provides matches for 120 players with operators, weapons, locations and battles familiar to fans of Warzone. The game will support the shared battle pass, social features, and cross-progression with Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0. The base game will be free-to-play, but most likely Activision will implement microtransactions in it.
