The new iPhone 14 lineup hasn’t been as popular as Apple had hoped. Now the company is adjusting its production plans, reducing the number of additional orders for the device.
A Bloomberg report notes that the Cupertino, California-based tech company produced about 90 million devices in the second half of 2021. And while Apple initially asked its partners to produce another 6 million units in the second half of this year, it has now cut production back to last year’s levels, effectively in line with the company’s original summer forecast.
Apple’s iPhone 14 was just an iterative update to the iPhone 13, while the iPhone 14 Pro received more significant upgrades. As such, the company sees strong demand for the Pro models, allocating more production capacity to these more expensive models. Notably, the company’s newest device in the iPhone 14 Plus lineup won’t go on sale until next month, so it won’t be until a few weeks after it goes public to talk about results.

It has also been reported that Apple has asked manufacturer Foxconn to remove part of the iPhone 14 production line due to low demand. Only in Zhengzhou Foxconn cancels or plans to cancel the work of at least 5 workshops. Earlier, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said on social media that Apple asked Foxconn to switch its iPhone 14 production line to the iPhone 14 Pro series production line in order to increase Apple’s product range and average iPhone sales in the fourth quarter.

The company also started making the iPhone 14 in India this week, the first time Apple has shifted production from China to India so quickly since the launch of a new iPhone. Apple basically only started producing the iPhone 13 in India in April of this year.
A recent report published by JP Morgan states that Apple plans to move 25% of its iPhone production to India by 2025. It is also noted that initially Indian factories will only produce the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus models and cover only 5% of the company’s production supplies (1 million units per month).
