Zotac has announced the release of VR GO 4.0, its fourth-generation backpack gaming computer. The manufacturer positions the unusual device as a gaming system for virtual reality. Externally, VR GO 4.0 has not changed compared to the previous version , but its filling has become more powerful.
At the heart of VR GO 4.0 is the Tiger Lake generation Intel Core i7-11800H mobile processor. The NVIDIA RTX A4500 professional accelerator with 7168 CUDA cores and 20 GB of GDDR6 memory is responsible for graphics processing here. The previous version of the device was equipped with a Core i7-9750H chip and GeForce RTX 2070 graphics.
On the one hand, it may seem strange to opt for a not quite gaming video card. However, the NVIDIA RTX A4500 is much more powerful than any entry-level gaming accelerator. For example, it has 1024 more CUDA cores than the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti gaming model. At the same time, the NVIDIA RTX A4500 consumes 200 watts of power. For comparison, for the same GeForce RTX 3080, the declared power consumption is 350 watts. For VR GO 4.0, the power consumption level is very important for autonomy, because the backpack computer runs on battery power.
The novelty offers 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. If desired, you can install up to 32 GB of memory. In addition, there is the possibility of installing an M.2 NVMe solid-state drive and a 2.5-inch SSD or SATA III hard drive.
The set of external connectors of the device consists of four USB 3.1 Type-A, one USB 3.1 Type-C, two USB 3.0, two DisplayPort and one HDMI. There’s also a pair of 3.5mm audio jacks and an SD memory card reader. In standalone mode, Zotac VR GO 4.0 is powered by dual 86.4 Wh hot-swappable batteries.
The company did not provide information about the timing of the release of VR GO 4.0, as well as its cost. The previous version of the camping computer was offered closer to $2000. Given the use of a professional NVIDIA RTX A4500 as part of a new generation of devices, its price may be even higher.
