Anatomy of a forgery. Xiaomi power bank with silicon filling

Hey.

In China, almost any product is counterfeited – fashionable clothes, bags, sometimes even food, not to mention expensive wines. In electronics, it seems that it is difficult to fake certain things, although, in fact, there are a lot of opportunities for saving, and we are constantly talking about this – you cannot buy a quality item for three kopecks. Although Xiaomi fans will say that this is not the case. After all, this brand has grown around the price / quality ratio, when you are offered something interesting for little money. Over the years, Xiaomi has become a brand of people’s love, and this is worth a lot. But also this kind of love and good sales means that scammers start to exploit the company’s image. Someone disguises their devices as Xiaomi, uses someone else’s brand. But there are those who counterfeit accessories, and it comes to the ridiculous, even inexpensive things are transformed. One of these stories happened to our friend, he bought a phone, and a 10400 mAh external battery from Xiaomi was a gift. I am sure that you have seen such batteries many times, they are very popular. In Moscow, the range of prices for them is 800 – 1 rubles.

Something suggests that no one would ever think to counterfeit such a battery, since Xiaomi sells them for minimal money. A metal case, a few ordinary batteries, a minimum of electronics – there is nothing to save on, or this savings will be penny. Ordinary people in most of the countries think so, but inquisitive Chinese minds have found a way to deceive here too.

The person who received the battery as a gift put it to charge; during the first use it turned out that something was wrong with it. He charged the smartphone for a short time, then just turned off. They don’t look a gift horse in the mouth (in fact, there can be a huge claim to a store that sells fakes), but since a person is friends with a soldering iron and a screwdriver, it was decided to disassemble the battery. If you do not know what you are doing, then please do not repeat this experiment. It may be dangerous!

Instead of batteries, dummies were mounted on the board, and in order to achieve the correct weight of the battery, sand was poured into the banks! A kind of silicon battery, know-how from the handy Chinese. In China, such a fake can be bought in bulk, the cost will be about $ 4.5-5 per piece. For comparison, the original battery costs about $ 6.5-7. The difference is staggering, but you need to understand that you are dealing with a fake.

Sand! I still can’t walk away and stop laughing. But the problem, in fact, is very widespread, and therefore it is necessary to pay attention to it, such batteries are potentially dangerous and can lead to any results.

Look at the photo of the end, which has a description of the characteristics of the battery.

The font here differs in color from the original, no one bothered to get the right tone. But this can only be seen by a person who has come across the original and understands that they can foist a fake on him. For most, it will just be a battery that looks and feels like the original.

Can I get a refund for such a battery? Definitely yes. But companies that sell such batteries (a gift on sale is also a sale, no matter how much the battery costs), risk much more – this is not just a fake, but a dangerous fake that does not have any quality certificates and further down the list. If a store receives such batteries and starts selling them, then as soon as such a substitution is discovered, it is necessary to withdraw the product from sale. The damage from lawsuits and compensation will be much greater. On the other hand, if you have a shop in the transition, then it may seem that this is a good option to make a little more money. Considering that the contingent of buyers is different, you can earn not a lawsuit, but ordinary people.

Many different batteries are counterfeited in China, including the huge market for counterfeit laptop batteries. They contain, as a rule, any batteries and controllers taken from dead batteries, created from several dead batteries, and so on. So when you see low prices in an online store, there should always be a warning light in your brain. There are no miracles, and there is no customs confiscation, direct delivery from the factory, and so on. These are fakes, which are sold at a low price and under the guise of the original. Slightly better is the situation when you are offered a copy of the original, this is a lottery, and you will never know what you are buying. Considering that such a battery can burn not only your laptop, but also an apartment or house, is it worth the risk of less money? It seems to me that these are just incommensurable things.

On the other hand, no matter how much I have been repeating all these years that you cannot save on chargers and batteries, people do things differently. They buy laptop batteries in obscure places, and then complain that their SSD burned out because something went wrong. How can a battery burn an SSD? Easily. But this is also from a series of knowledge, which, unfortunately, they acquire on their own skin, and not on someone else’s experience.

I really hope that this material will help you not miss and be vigilant when buying any goods. Everything related to charging devices and batteries requires special attention. For peace of mind, it’s easier to overpay than to sort out problems later. Or you need to be in the know and understand very precisely what you are doing and why. Finally, I want to recommend a text that logically complements this one – about fake chargers for MacBook, last year’s story about how I bought such a device.

Be careful and careful, beware of counterfeits! Good and good shopping for you.
