Less than two weeks away from WWDC 2020, and new information about the company’s upcoming announcements continues to emerge. Bloomberg announced that the first Apple ARM processor for Mac computers will be shown at the developer conference.
Will the new computer be shown too?
No, the first computer with a “mobile” processor will be shown only next year. They announce the processor and announce the transition from Intel to their own chips so that developers can adapt their applications to the new platform.
According to Bloomberg, they will present a 12-core processor built using a 5-nm process technology. The processor will be more powerful and more energy efficient than the 10th Gen Intel Core processors currently found in the new MacBook Air and Pro.
Which computer will be the first to get an ARM processor?
The most logical is the MacBook Air with ARM, because in the current line it is the most compact, lightest and not the most powerful Apple laptop. Switching to ARM will only increase battery life, which will make the Ultrabook even more attractive to buyers.
Renowned analyst Min-Chi Kuo has repeatedly stated that Apple is working on several ARM computers at once:
We can say that this is the third major update of computers in terms of processors: in the early 1990s, the company abandoned Motorola processors in favor of the PowerPC, and in 2005, Steve Jobs announced a partnership with Intel. A new era is coming! The announcement of its own ARM-processor for the PC can become that very cherished part of “One more thing …”.
