As Tim Cook reports on his Twitter account, Apple has begun manufacturing protective screens for doctors around the world. The protective screens are made of plastic and are assembled in less than two minutes – each size is individually adjustable.
Apple is dedicated to supporting the worldwide response to COVID-19. We’ve now sourced over 20M masks through our supply chain. At the moment, more than 20 million protective screens have been produced and shipped, the production of which has been established in the USA and China. The company plans to release 1 million such screens per week.
How are other companies tackling the coronavirus pandemic?
A serious problem that is faced in all countries in the treatment of patients with coronavirus is the lack of mechanical ventilation devices (IVL). Within ten days, Dyson, known as the “Apple in consumer electronics” company, developed its ventilator and began supplying them to British hospitals.
The UK authorities have entered into an agreement with a company for the supply of 10 thousand units called CoVent. Another 5 thousand Dyson devices will donate to other countries to fight the pandemic.
Tesla today also showcased a prototype ventilator made from Model 3 electric vehicle parts. Engineers are trying to use as many existing parts as possible so that the design and manufacturing process does not drag on.
The company does not say when the production and dispatch of finished devices will begin. In any case, the work is in full swing.
Mercedes, together with Red Bull Racing, Racing Point, Haas, McLaren, Renault and Williams, set up production in Brackley: about 250 ventilators are assembled there every day. Companies are counting on a constant increase in the number of finished copies.
But Ford Motor has teamed up with General Electric (GE) and 3M to expand the production of medical equipment: at the factories of Ford and GE they have launched the production of ventilators, and together with 3M they are producing electric-powered air-purifying respirators. The company plans to produce about 50 thousand devices by April 20, and then produce 30 thousand devices a month.
Other IT companies
- Amazon has promised to expand its staff of warehouse workers and drivers, as well as increase their salaries. CEO Jeff Bezos offered laid-off bar and restaurant employees to work temporarily in support of Amazon;
- Facebook gave doctors about 1 million masks and is trying to get the same amount. Zuckerberg also donated $ 20 million to the UN Foundation, WHO and the US Centers for Disease Control;
- Microsoft donated more than 15 goggles, suits and infrared thermometers to doctors in Seattle.
The best way to fight coronavirus is isolation. If possible, do not leave the confines of your apartment, and also exclude contact with people of age. Wash your hands, go to the store wearing a respirator and try not to touch your face with dirty hands. You should also not forget about the disinfection of gadgets:
