A brand new 16-inch MacBook Pro went on sale last week:
In addition to the obvious “more powerful and faster”, the keyboard design has also changed – the main talk of the MacBook in recent years. It was not discussed except by a lazy one: the keys stick, it is unrealistic to type, you constantly need to blow it. Someone even took their MacBook to an official service center three times a year to get their keyboard cleaned. But experts only changed it to a new one, since such a “repair” could not do without breaking the device.
All this led to the fact that the journalist of The Washington Post published a witty text, which tells how she is infuriated by the constantly sticking “butterfly”:
Apple has acknowledged the problem. And, probably, the main innovation of the new “firmware” is the Magic Keyboard, and not at all powerful hardware, smaller frames or amazing sound and microphone.
The iFixit experts decided to check this fact and disassembled the MacBook Pro. As it turns out, the keyboard is really good! According to them, Magic Keyboard can really work without problems for much longer. And if something gets under the keys (and this is normal), then they can be easily removed and cleaned by hand.
The new keyboard is structurally very similar to both the desktop Magic Keyboard and the same keyboard that Apple used in MacBooks before the butterfly. This is a scissor keyboard.
The switch consists of two plastic parts crossed in the center with the axis to control the movement of the key. This mechanism is more reliable than the “butterfly”, in its movements there is more room to withstand debris, as evidenced by the absence of a membrane around the keys and the absence of an extended warranty for this keyboard (at the moment). Apple seems to be confident about the durability (and possibly the noise level).
More key travel. By as much as 0,5 mm! I remember that Apple argued the transition to the “butterfly” by the fact that the previous keyboard took up too much space …
However, the keys on the new MacBook Pro can be replaced with keys from the Magic Keyboard. How do you like a gray laptop with white keys?
You can do this modding yourself. There is only one difference: the keys are slightly lower on the MacBook.
However, the new keyboard also has problems: replacing the key mechanism itself is impossible without disassembling the laptop. And this, of course, is pain.
