It’s not often that smartphones as stylish and sexy as the Xiaomi Mi 11 hit the market, and one look at which is admirable.
If you think about it, there are practically no truly beautiful smartphones on the market. Two companies approached the highest stage of beauty, but they entered from different directions. One of these companies is Apple, but it’s not all that simple. After the renders of future models are leaked to the network, groans usually go up, “How can you disfigure a smartphone,” but then devices are released for sale, accompanied by well-chosen photo / video materials and lifestyle stories. You look at them and, against your will, you succumb to the marketing charm. iPhone looks the same in photos and in real life. This is a very important point, since you must admit that usually advertising images are far from their real appearance. So there is always a ringing dissonance when you get to know the device in person. This is not the case with the iPhone.
Then there is Huawei. Take a look at Huawei P40 Pro + or Mate 40 Pro +. These are very beautiful devices. Huge endless screens, neat camera modules, deep colors. They look better on promo pictures than live ones, but they are still good.
Xiaomi’s design, for my taste, did not produce a wow effect before. All smartphones were okay and cute, but nothing more. But in recent years, the company has seemed to focus more on design.
The same Poco M3 visually stands out from most of the models on the market. You may like him or not, but his appearance evokes emotion.
Xiaomi Mi 11 is beautiful in its conciseness: a huge screen, a matte silky back panel. Of course, the quality of the screen plays a huge role in perception. Gorgeous juicy AMOLED panel measuring 6.81 inches and a density of 515 ppi.
The block of cameras looks very unusual. Due to the different colors, borders and sizes, the camera unit resembles a painting in the genre of contemporary art. Perhaps the designers should have acted more decisively and made all the circles different.
I didn’t have much time during the presentation, but overall Mi 11 is an amazing smartphone. Responsiveness, speed of work, picture from cameras and cinema effects – everything is very cool. So far, the smartphone is not on sale in Russia, so I only look at the price from AliExpress. And 57 thousand rubles is a decent and fair price.

I swallowed the book literally in 3 days, when it appeared in electronic access. The impressions are mixed. On the one hand, reading speed hints at what’s interesting. On the other hand, there was a feeling that I was not reading a novel, but watching a movie or TV series on Netflix. The scenes are constructed as if they are going to be filmed in a movie. Here is the cover of the coffin, here is a German tank crawling through the catacombs, here is a panoramic view of the battle for the castle, over which a demon hovers. By the way, Ivanov’s interview recently caught my eye, in which he says that he is already working on the film adaptation and has hired a team with good experience in selling Netflix content.
Another point is that the book was originally published for the Storytel audio service. And there, as I understand it, it was read by different actors and there were different sound effects.
I do not consider myself to be a literary critic, but as a reader who bought the book, I can say that I did not have enough depth, or more elaboration of the characters, so that they evoke empathy, empathy, and not just extras with prescribed roles. However, if it was originally planned that the book was for screen adaptation, then, probably, everything is fine, since what the author did not provide, the actor playing the character will be able to make up.
But overall the book is great. After reading it, I really want to visit all the places described, look at the ruins of the castles mentioned, and get more acquainted with the history of the Teutonic Order.
I bought a book on Liters and thus made a mistake. It is better to take the paper version, as, as I understand it, it is accompanied by maps and illustrations. Given the abundance of place names, I had to read, distracted by Google.
Lenovo ThinkPad 14S
It has been a long time since I had a real ThinkPad laptop on my test. I even managed to forget all the charm of this line. The ThinkPad 14S is a classic Orthodox ThinkPad. You look and the oil flows. I took the ThinkPad 14S with me to Lake Baikal, and the laptop did not let me down.
Thin, lightweight (1.27 kg), with excellent battery life (instantly turns on, falls asleep quickly and practically does not consume power in sleep mode) and a reliable magnesium alloy case. Touchpad with duplicate keys, trackpoint, on the keyboard buttons to pick up / hang up the handset for Skype, convenient charging via Type-C. And most importantly, the application is that the laptop is not afraid of either heat or cold. And the latter was important for me, since the vacation meant that the laptop should survive the frost of -25 degrees and after the walk give the opportunity to work while sitting in a cafe.
There are options on Intel, but my sample was on an AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U with Radeon Graphics. For office tasks, productivity is more than enough. Along the way, I managed to play Hades during my vacation.
Logitech MX Master 3
Chic mouse from Logitech. A small text is published on the site. Of course, this is a little thing for wealthy professionals. Still, not everyone will pay under 10 thousand rubles for a manipulator. But if you can afford it, then indulge yourself. In addition to being highly accurate and helpful, the mouse is also visually and tactilely pleasing.
Logitech promises that the mouse works on all surfaces, including clear glass. I can confirm the latter, since during the trip we lived in a room with a large glass table.
The side buttons (forward / backward), moving between browser tabs horizontally scrolling, were the most interesting for me. I liked Logitech Flow very much. This option allows you to work on three computers with one mouse, creating a kind of extended desktop, and most importantly, you can exchange files according to the “Copy-Paste” principle. Also, the mouse allows you to use gestures. You hold down the small button on the backing next to your thumb and make a movement (up, down, right, left). Left / Right is a change of desktops. Almost as convenient as the touchpad swipe gesture.
Xiaomi Shoe Dryer
I know you did not ask and do not go to Mobile-Review for this. But recently I bought a shoe dryer from Xiaomi. We must share! Initially, I wanted to make a review, but I realized that there was nothing to talk about. Two “bagels”, you insert them into your shoes, you plug them into an outlet. All. No smart features.
There is a slightly more advanced model, in which a timer for 3 – 9 hours of operation. Set it for the night, joy in the morning!
The shoe dryer came in handy. To be honest, in recent years I have hardly experienced any cold weather. First, I managed to leave for warmer regions for the winter. Secondly, and there were no decent cold weather, it seems. Winter boots and an insulated parka lay in my closet, not unpacked for three years, only taking up space. Each time I looked and wondered why I spent the money. But before going to Lake Baikal, I decided to buy myself a second pair of boots (for safety reasons and so that it was not a pity to climb the mountains), and caring Google showed insulated winter sneakers from Columbia. I did not take pictures of them separately, but they got into the frame together with a laptop. Since I did not expect anything worthwhile from them, and I bought at the last moment, I was too lazy to wait for the black version, and took what was available in the store near my home. If you are thinking of buying, I recommend the black one. It looks more interesting.
Apparently I missed how winter clothing technology has advanced. It remains in my memory that winter boots are always something heavy, preferably made of dense leather. There are also the lightest waterproof sneakers and at the same time very warm. For the first time I realized that something was wrong when I went to check them at -10 degrees. I walked slowly, but my leg got hot! Optimally, these sneakers are worn at -15 on a thin toe. At -25 degrees, I put on insulated socks and it was gorgeous. Now I thought that I need to find something less cool from the same series, designed for our mild winters. Probably, citizens who are forced to regularly use winter clothes will laugh at me, saying that there are even warmer and easier solutions. Well, go ahead! I will only be grateful!
Cuckoo clock from Amazon
From what is happening in the world, the cuckoo itself rings, but you must admit how cool it would be to have your own cuckoo clock. At the same time, not some nonsense that only knows how to show the time, but something smart and cool. For example, so that the cuckoo also plays with you as a voice assistant and answers questions. Amazon is launching its crowdfunding platform, which includes a smart cuckoo clock among the concepts. The platform was launched in mid-February, and so far the cuckoo has gained only 47% of the required amount. Amazon promises that if the amount is not collected, the money will be returned.
The cuckoo is combined with Alexa (assistant from Amazon) and can do everything that Alexa can do. I like the idea of a smart cuckoo clock, but I don’t like the specific execution. The description indicates that the cuckoo is mechanical, but it is not clear, but it will hide and come out only at the moments when it is necessary to tell the time, or if the user asks a question.
And someone needs to do cuckoo clocks, since there are no cool options. AliExpress offers this kind of fear.
Conclusion
During the trip to Baikal, I managed to live in several hotels, and in Irkutsk they simply rented an apartment. Warm floors were everywhere. And this is perhaps my personal main gadget for February. I had never encountered a warm floor before, and did not understand what was wrong with that. And then I tried it and realized how great it was when I woke up and galloped so barefoot into the bath, into the kitchen, into the living room. It is especially pleasant when there is frost and mountains of snow outside the window.
