Samsung Electronics today announced a breakthrough in 5G data transfer speeds. The new performance level was an impressive 5,23 Gbps. The new technology of dual operation of the equipment of 5G and 4G base stations – EN-DC helped to achieve this indicator. The company forced the protocols and spectra of both standards to work together to serve one subscriber.

Samsung encourages the use of all the resources available to operators to ensure the best possible customer experience. The new EN-DC (E-UTRAN New Radio Dual Connectivity) technology paves the way for the operation of 4G (LTE) equipment for the benefit of owners of 5G-enabled devices. This increases coverage and data transfer rates.

The company held a demonstration of the EN-DC technology in its laboratory in Korea. Samsung’s standard equipment was used as a stand in the form of 4G radio modules, a 5G (Compact Macro) radio station and a common 4G / 5G core, and a Samsung Galaxy S20 + smartphone served as a receiving device. During the experiment, 4G 40 MHz and 5G 800 MHz channels were combined. The joint work of the protocols allowed the Samsung Galaxy S20 + smartphone to establish a connection at a speed of 5,23 Gbps, which, according to the company, became a new world record.

Samsung set the previous record in connection speed last year, raising the connection speed to 4,3 Gbps, which is almost double the 2019 record. In the future, with the introduction of the 5G standard with a frequency spectrum in the millimeter-wave range with frequencies of tens and hundreds of gigahertz, the transmission speed will increase even more, but at the same time, the joint operation of 4G (LTE) and 5G networks allows using the existing groundwork for better service to subscribers right now. …
