Apple has moved some of the production of the iPhone SE, iPhone XR and iPhone 11 to India for a relatively long time. However, today the portal Gizmochina, citing a report from the Business Standard newspaper, reported that the Cupertino-based company also plans to begin production of the iPhone 12 in India in the near future.
According to the data from the report, so far there are plans to transfer only 7-10% of the total production volume of the iPhone 12 from China to India. It is also considering the start of production of the iPhone 12 mini by Indian contractors. However, the company has not yet made a final decision. Devices manufactured in India will be primarily intended for local sales. However, some of the devices will be exported to other countries. It is noted that thanks to this, the company can avoid paying the high import duties that exist in India. There is a chance that under such conditions, the cost of devices can be reduced – although Apple has never made such concessions before.
According to Business Standard, with such steps the company is trying to reduce its dependence on China and expand its presence in the Indian market. Note that this information is not final and only reflects what the sources received from insiders and analysts.
