Facebook has finally launched a light version of the Instagram app. It consumes less traffic and takes up only 2 MB in the device’s memory, which is especially important for owners of old smartphones and tablets. Instagram Lite is available to Android users in 170 countries.
For the first time, a light version of Instagram was launched in 2018. Later, in 2020, it was removed from the Google Play app store. As for the new, redesigned Instagram Lite, most of the functionality of the “adult” application is available in it. These include Direct Messages, Video Recording and Posting, and the Reels tab. Unfortunately, the application does not work with heavy animations and lacks AR masks in Stories, although this is understandable given its focus on users of weak devices or those who do not have access to high-speed Internet.
In addition to Instagram Lite, Facebook is reportedly launching Express Wi-Fi to make the internet more accessible in 20 countries in Asia, Africa and South America. In addition, Facebook is working on a branded e-wallet.
