Many people have long been accustomed to watching YouTube videos and eating. Chips are often used as a snack, the crunch of which can drown out the sound of the video being played. A new extension for Chrome browser called Crispy Subtitles from Lay’s will help solve this problem, which can automatically turn on subtitles in YouTube videos if it detects a crunching sound near the device.
The development of this product was carried out by the specialists of the Vietnamese design studio Bliss Interactive in conjunction with the Happiness Saigon advertising agency, which represents Lay’s chips in Vietnam. According to the developers of the extension, the inability to hear the sound of the video while eating chips is a problem, due to which YouTube users constantly have to adjust the volume level. The product they created will help avoid this, because every time the extension detects a crunch in the vicinity of the device, subtitles are automatically turned on.
Crispy Subtitles from Lay’s reportedly developed 178 hours of crisp sound recordings of chips being eaten. As a result, machine learning technologies were used to create an AI crunch recognition model, which became the basis of the mentioned product. After installing the extension in Chrome, it accesses the tab from YouTube and every time it detects a crunch, it launches subtitles if they are available for the video you are watching. The source tested the video and confirmed its performance, noting that it requires crisps to crunch loudly enough for it to function properly.
