The initiative of the UK authorities to completely abandon the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines by 2030 leaves little choice for local sports car manufacturers. Like McLaren, Aston Martin will be forced to begin the transition to electric traction. The first electric vehicles of this brand will be released in 2025, and before that the trend will be supported by rechargeable hybrids.
In January last year, it became known that the project for the small-scale production of the Rapid E electric car has transformed into research and experimental work, and the corresponding “Bond electric car” will still not enter the market. The Financial Times is now reporting that Aston Martin will launch its first electric vehicles in 2025, with a crossover among the two debut models. It will be produced at a facility in Wales, and the production of a sports electric car will be carried out by an enterprise at the headquarters of Aston Martin in Gaydon, England.
Now 20% of the shares of Aston Martin are owned by Mercedes-Benz, but the participation of the German partner in the creation of electric vehicles may be limited to the supply of traction batteries. The DBX plug-in hybrid crossover is due to hit the market this year, and Aston Martin’s range of hybrid vehicles will expand by 2023. Curiously, company representatives declare their readiness to continue producing internal combustion engines for their customers after 2030, when they will no longer be sold as part of cars in the UK and some other countries.
