The construction of a new Tesla factory in the vicinity of Berlin was constantly hampered by various factors: environmentalists expressed dissatisfaction with the tree arch and the impact of the construction on the local fauna, as well as the lack of water resources. Now the media are reporting that the authorities have allowed the installation of equipment at the enterprise, and the pilot production of electric vehicles may begin in the coming months.
Now the German edition Handelsblatt reports with reference to the municipal authorities that in March Tesla managed to obtain permission to continue the construction of the enterprise, although literally every type of construction and installation work has to be coordinated separately. Approval of the company’s activities, taking into account environmental requirements, can be issued by the beginning of April, the company has already received permission to install technological equipment in finished buildings. By July, production of electric vehicles could be launched as planned.
In the time remaining until July, Tesla will be able to test engineering networks and production equipment, as well as carry out a trial assembly of electric vehicles. Without obtaining final permits, the enterprise will not be able to supply products to the market. Over time, the production of up to 500 thousand electric vehicles per year will be expanded here, 12 thousand local residents will get jobs. In the vicinity of Berlin, the company will also produce 4680 battery cells, which will be equipped with locally assembled Model Y crossovers. In Europe, only Tesla Model Y electric vehicles assembled at this facility are to be sold. Tesla Model 3 of the Chinese assembly has already begun to be delivered to Europe in parallel with the American cars.
