Sony Interactive Entertainment and RTS have acquired the world’s largest fighting championship, the Evolution Championship Series (Evo), familiar to fans of Smash Bros., Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat. The co-founders of the tournament, Tony and Tom Cannon, will continue to work on it as key advisors. The terms of the deal and its value were not disclosed.
The Evo will return this year as the Evo 2021 Online. The championship will be held from 6 to 8 August, and then from 13 to 15 August. Residents from North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America will be able to sign up for free participation. So far, it is known that the tournament will be held in the following disciplines:
- Guilty Gear: Strive;
- Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate;
- Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
- Tekken 7.
