A City Council member was intimidated by a recent police operation involving Boston Dynamics’ Digidog robot. He had no weapons – only surveillance cameras. However, a City Council member suggests playing it safe and introducing the country’s first law prohibiting police from owning or operating armed robots.
That is, the bill does not ban robots like Digidog. However, experts believe that non-dangerous robots may well turn into deadly ones.
Last month, police used Digidog to collect information about a house where two men were holding hostages. As a result, the police detained the suspects, but some people expressed concern about the technical capabilities of the robot.
