The lawsuit involves people who bought MacBook models between 2015 and 2017 and MacBook Pro models between 2016 and 2019. Owners of the 2018-2019 MacBook Air were also affected.
Apple’s butterfly mechanism has been able to reduce the thickness, but many disappointed MacBook users have found that the keyboard breaks down quite quickly when dust gets into it. Keys are sticky, not firing when pressed, or register multiple presses. As a result, Apple dropped this mechanism in 2020.
The lawsuit alleges that Apple has known for years that its butterfly keyboard was unreliable. But she continued to use it, making ineffective changes to the design.
