Apple today released the fifth beta of macOS Big Sur 11.3, aimed at developers and public testers. The specialists of the 9to5Mac portal were able to find in the operating system code the references to the new iMac computers, which may be presented in the near future.
The new computers are codenamed “iMac21,1” and “iMac21,2”. In this case, we are not talking about diagonals, Apple makes prefixes in the form of numbers to the names of products, thereby denoting their position in the family. Bloomberg previously reported that the new iMac will have service numbers “J456” and “J457”. A new leak confirms this information. Apple must update both 21 and 27-inch computers. It is possible that this will be done gradually and in the near future we can expect the release of new compact iMacs.
It’s also worth considering that Apple recently stopped producing the iMac Pro and sold some configurations of the iMac 21.5. Probably, their places will be taken by computers based on Apple’s ARM processor. Rumor has it that this chip may be an improved version of the Apple M1, which will have a different name.
Also last week, the 9to5Mac portal wrote about an interesting post from the developer of the DaftCloud application. In a bug report, he mentions an iMac with an ARM-64 architecture. It is possible that new computers are already undergoing testing within Apple.
