The intricacies of the share capital structure of the Chinese company ECARX shows how much local players in the automotive market are ready to expand cooperation with partners to accelerate expansion. Next year, ECARX will offer customers an Arm-compatible processor, which will be manufactured by TSMC using 7nm technology.

ECARX founder Chen Zi Yu, who is also the chairman of the board of directors of the Chinese auto giant Geely, which has owned Volvo’s passenger car business since 2010, told Reuters about this. According to him, ECARX has a joint venture with Arm China, a subsidiary of the British holding, which is developing processors with the same architecture. Siengine will begin supplying ECARX customers with Arm-compatible processors by the end of next year or early 2023. The Taiwanese TSMC will produce profile processors for automotive systems using 7nm technology.

ECARX customers in this area are already automobile brands Geely and Volvo, which is quite expected, as well as Lotus, Lynk & Co, Polestar and Smart. Negotiations are underway with other automakers, as noted by the head of ECARX. Over the past few months, the company, founded in 2016, has raised at least $ 400 million, including the Chinese giant Baidu and the American investment company Susquehanna International Group. The services of TSMC are also used by the Israeli Mobileye, which is a subsidiary of Intel – its Taiwanese contractor is already supplying 7nm products, although the parent corporation is preparing to master it only by 2023.
