Game Designer Edmund McMillen recently spoke to blogger Northernlion about his plans following the release of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Repentance expansion.

The original The Binding of Isaac was released in September 2011, and its remake for PC and consoles – subtitled Rebirth – debuted in November 2014. Since then, the “reborn” version has already received two add-ons, and the release of the third (Repentance) is expected in 2021.

According to McMillen, The Binding of Isaac 2 “It will happen one day, but not anytime soon”… Before moving on to the sequel, the game designer intends to deal with all the current developments.

In particular, at this stage, McMillen is preparing to launch another Kickstarter campaign, and within two years he also plans to complete the development of the announced back in 2012 “Cat simulator” Mew-Genics.

Following this, McMillen hopes to spend another two years creating modest-sized games for self-development, after which he intends to return to the idea of ​​developing The Binding of Isaac 2.

“I have a design document for [The Binding of Isaac 2]. But I want everything to settle down first. This has not happened in ten years, but I need to look at what is happening from the outside and understand what will suit the sequel. “– shared McMillen.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The release of the PC version of Repentance is expected on March 31, and in the second half of this year, the addon will appear on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
