The Duke of Cambridge has said it is “our shared responsibility” to think differently, act boldly and “make the impossible, possible” if the planet is to be repaired in a decade.
Prince William told Earthshot Prize winners and industry leaders that it was just the “start of the journey” to reverse climate change as he addressed a summit in Glasgow.
Both the Duke and his father, the Prince of Wales, are scheduled to attend a series of events at Cop26 on Tuesday, the second day of the climate conference, as they continue to urge world leaders to take decisive action.
Prince Charles held a series of bilateral meetings with leaders including US President Joe Biden, with whom he discussed global cooperation on climate change, while his son held meetings with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
It comes after the Queen recorded a poignant speech telling delegates that it was time to “rise above politics” and instigate change for the sake of future generations.
Prince Charles, 72, kicked off with a speech at a session on Actions on Forests and Land Use, expressing frustration that his decades of campaigning on the environment had prompted little change.
He said: “Frankly, we have all had enough talking, so we need to put our words and commitments into practice.
“I can’t believe how many times I’ve made speeches like this all over the world during the past 40 years and to no avail, but I can only pray that this session will provide us with a real sense of the seriously urgent, systemic shifts that need to happen to deliver on our vision.”
