It is believed the Queen will not be staying in her usual rooms at the main house in Norfolk, where she traditionally spends Christmas, but at a nearby property. The Duke of Edinburgh used to spend time at Wood Farm, a farmhouse on the estate.
The monarch was cleared as fit to fly after a period of ill health, having cancelled a visit to Northern Ireland on Oct 20 on the advice of doctors. She was later revealed to have spent a night in hospital for “preliminary tests” and six days later, on the advice of specialists, pulled out of Cop26.
On Oct 29, the palace announced the Queen must rest for at least another two weeks and undertake only light, desk-based duties. News that she would miss the Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall caused concern, although a spokesman said it was her “firm intention” to appear at the Cenotaph to watch the annual laying of the wreath.
Over the last few weeks, she has been photographed at Windsor Castle undertaking several virtual engagements, as well as holding telephone audiences with Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak.
