The Duchess of Cambridge has sat down with a veteran and a Cub Scout to make poppies and talk about Remembrance.
Kate Middleton was joined by Italy Star veteran Colonel David Blum OBE and 10-year old Cub Scout Emily for a conversation that was filmed and released today.
In the film, Kate, who is joint president of The Scout Association, awarded Emily a new Scouts’ Centenary Remembrance Badge for creating a poppy display for her local church.
The new badge was spearheaded by the Duchess to mark the Royal British Legion centenary, and is given to Scouts who take a meaningful part in remembrance.
During their chat at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, the Duchess spoke about the role that remembrance has played within society over the past 100 years.
Colonel Blum spoke about the importance of remembrance to him, and reflected on the colleagues he’d lost in Italy during the Second World War.
They also discussed the long-term impact of Colonel Blum’s own time in the Scouts and the vital life skills and experiences that being a Scout can provide to young people.
