For more than 2 months of the war in Ukraine, almost 6.5 thousand people were killed and injured.
From 4 a.m. on February 24, 2022, when Russia attacked Ukraine, to midnight on May 1, 2022, the UN recorded 6,469 civilian deaths or injuries in Ukraine.
This is reported on the website of the UN Ukraine.
For more than 2 months of war in Ukraine, 3153 people were killed and 3316 were injured.
Of the 3153 dead:
- 1115 men
- 722 women
- 71 girls
- 83 boys
- 72 children and 1090 adults whose gender has not yet been determined.
Of the 3316 wounded:
- 395 men
- 324 women
- 69 girls and 80 boys,
- 170 children and 2278 adults whose gender has not yet been determined.
In Donetsk and Luhansk regions: 3241 cases (1638 dead and 1603 injured)
In government-controlled territory : 2,757 cases (1,539 dead and 1,218 injured).
In territory controlled by self-proclaimed “republics” : 484 cases (99 dead and 385 injured).
Most of the recorded civilian casualties in Ukraine were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide area of effect, including shelling from heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, as well as rocket and air strikes.
“UNHCHR believes that the real figures are much higher, as there is a delay in receiving information from some places where heavy fighting continues, and many reports from places where civilian casualties are reported still need to be confirmed. This concerns, for example, Mariupol (Donetsk region), Izyum (Kharkiv region) and Popasna (Luhansk region), where, according to reports, there were numerous cases of death or injury of civilians,” the report says.
Recall that a Hollywood actress and special lady UN Ambassador for Refugees Angelina Jolie visited Ukraine over the weekend.
The actress said: “I am proud to see the resilience, courage and dignity of the Ukrainian people. It is terrible to see the impact the war has on a whole generation of Ukrainian children.”
