Wash dishes, wash things, fill the drain tank – such everyday things, now, in Nikolaev – daily chores for every resident, says TSN

Morning in Nikolaev begins with a queue for water. With eggplants, buckets and cans, Nikolaev residents collect water for household needs in tens of liters at a time. There are hundreds of inhabitants around each cistern during the day. “At first they were brought from Odessa, but now from a reservoir, like from a fireman,” the drivers say.

In order not to go twice, Vasily gains under 40 liters at a time. “These two are 38 liters. This is me in appearance, and so I will carry more and more, ”says the man.

It is a hundred meters from the cistern to his house, but in the first days, when there was no water, he had to drive for it. “I got on the 3rd tram, went to the river, 500 meters down there, and took it from the river, from Ignul,” the man says.

In the apartment of Vasily and his wife Raisa, every container is filled with water. Stocks in the bathroom, and on the balcony, and in the kitchen. The spouses are reinsured, what if there is no electricity and the pumps will not pump, or the gasoline will run out and the tank will not arrive. “These two tanks of 19 liters each are enough, and if I cook something there, then of course a little more, I spend a lot,” says the woman.

Currently, there are more than a hundred water distribution points in the city. In addition, old wells are being deconserved and new ones are being drilled. “We decided to drill a well, yesterday they started to beat it, now we are bringing it up so that there is clean, drinking water, and then people will come and sort this water,” the communal services say.

Together with public utilities, volunteers and ordinary entrepreneurs bring water every day. To repair the damaged water supply, which is still impossible in the occupied territory. But local authorities do not rule out that it will be possible to find an alternative source of centralized water supply.

“Reserve wells of the water utility are being opened, other actions are being considered and are already being carried out in this regard, there is hope, but there is still a question of timing,” officials say.

What these terms will be – it is not known yet, but the people of Nikolaev do not complain, the time is such. “In our time, nothing is hard, you have to get used to everything, if only I had a yoke,” say the locals.
