In the evening of May 4, Russian troops launched a missile strike on the Dnieper and other Ukrainian cities. This massive attack takes place for the second day in a row at about the same time.

At approximately 20:00 the day before, on May 3, several Ukrainian cities were shaken by the explosions. Russian troops have launched a missile strike on railway infrastructure in several regions in the west, south and center of the country.

In Lviv, three power substations were damaged by rocket strikes, and part of the city was left without electricity. Also, Transcarpathia was hit for the first time. The rocket hit the substation near the station in Volovets.

One of the Russian missiles also hit the territory of the Dolyna community in the Kirovohrad region. Two more flew to infrastructure facilities in the Bolgrad district of Odessa

The Ukrainian air defense system was able to intercept missiles near Kyiv and Vinnytsia. In particular, one of them, who was flying to the capital, was shot down near the city near the Odessa highway.

On Wednesday, May 4, at about 8 pm, an air alarm sounded again in almost the entire territory of Ukraine. The exception is the occupied territories of Crimea and Kherson region. The alarm lasted for almost three hours.

Even before its completion, it became known about the first objects that were hit by Russian missiles.

The mayor of Dnipro Borys Filatov said that the center of his city came under fire.

Later, the head of Ukrzaliznytsia Oleksandr Kamyshin clarified that the railway infrastructure was damaged.

“Another rocket attack on the railway infrastructure in the Dnieper. There are no casualties among the railway workers,” Kamyshin said.

Infrastructure damage will be assessed later.

A video of a missile hitting a railway bridge across the Dnieper River has appeared in telegram channels. The BBC cannot promptly verify the authenticity of the record.

The head of the regional military administration Valentyn Reznichenko said that two missiles had been launched in the city.

“Two missile strikes on the Dnieper. One missile was shot down by our air defense. The other aimed at the railway infrastructure. People were not affected. There is destruction. The movement of trains has been stopped,” he said.

Ukrzaliznytsia later reported train delays in some directions. For example, the Kyiv-Dnipro train is delayed for almost 7 hours.

Adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko assures that the Ukrainian air defense shot down a missile on the “approach to the bridge”.

“According to my data, the valiant Ukrainian air defense shot down at least two cruise missiles today. One in the Dnieper on the approach to the bridge. The second in the Brovary district of Kyiv region,” he said.

Oleksandr Pavliuk, the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, also confirmed the rocket attack on the Brovary district.

“According to preliminary information, the missile was shot down by air defense between the villages of Trebukhiv and Krasylivka. As a result of falling debris, a bush caught fire. The SES is working on the spot,” he said.

The successful work of air defense was also reported in Cherkasy. Local head of OVA Igor Taburets pointed out that the explosions in the city have just such a reason.

In social networks specify that explosions in the evening on Wednesday are recorded in Zaporizhia, Odessa, Kropyvnytskyi and Nikolaev. Regarding the latter, Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych confirmed the information.

“Explosions are heard in Nikolaev. Friends, remain in shelters! In no case don’t stand at windows and don’t publish photos or videos”, – he reported.

The head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration, Andriy Raikovych, said that the shelling was outside the regional center, Kropyvnytskyi.

“There is an arrival at the infrastructure facility outside the regional center. All services are working,” he added.

Russia does not deny that it is hitting Ukraine’s railway infrastructure. The country’s Ministry of Defense confirmed information about the shelling on the morning of May 4.

“High-precision long-range weapons of air and sea bases destroyed six traction power substations in the areas of railway stations Pidbirtsi, Lviv, Volovets, Tymkove and Pyatihatki, through which the Ukrainian group of troops in Donbass delivered weapons and ammunition, both US and European.” commented on their actions in Russia.
