On May 4, the Finnish national television and radio company Yle began publishing news in Ukrainian.
The TRK took this step in order to support refugees and other Ukrainians living in Finland by providing them with the necessary and important information in their native language.
This was reported on the publication’s website.
“The Russian invasion of Ukraine has forced millions of Ukrainians to leave their homes and seek asylum in other countries. It is expected that 40,000 to 80,000 refugees will arrive in Finland alone. For our part, we want to support refugees and other Ukrainians living in Finland in their daily life and help them integrate into Finnish society,” said Jouko Jokinen, editor-in-chief of the Yle News and Current Programs Service.
The news will be translated into Ukrainian using machine translation services. Before publication, they will be checked by a Ukrainian-language editor. News in Ukrainian is published on the website Yle.fi.
The focus will be on the main news in Finland, as well as news that will be of particular interest to asylum seekers from Ukraine.
