Latvia is convinced that the best help from the European Union for Ukraine would be to grant it the status of a candidate member of the EU already at the next EU summit.
Latvia also noted that it continues to provide military assistance to Ukraine. The country is also going to rebuild schools, kindergartens, hospitals, etc. in Ukraine after the war.
This was announced on May 5 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, at the Conference of Donors for Assistance to Ukraine.
“We continue to work with our Ukrainian partners as problems arise. And we are convinced that the best help to Ukraine would be to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate at the next EU summit, as well as work to end this war as soon as possible by helping Ukraine,” Rinkevics said.
According to him, Latvia provides Ukraine with support in various areas, in particular in the military.
“Military assistance already exceeds 200 million euros. And, of course, we plan to continue,” the Latvian Foreign Minister noted.
In addition, Latvia is also going to take part in the restoration of infrastructure in Ukraine, in particular schools, kindergartens, hospitals, etc.
Rinkevics added that currently Latvia has already allocated 5 million euros to Ukraine through the World Bank to cover Ukraine’s budgetary needs. He also announced the provision of 10 million euros for the Ukrainian program of public services in emergencies.
