At the same time, none of the goals of the invasion that Russia had planned was achieved.
Russia has not achieved its goals in Ukraine, but it is demonstrating its readiness to further destroy the country, so there is no point in hoping for an early end to the war.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this at a joint press conference with his Czech counterpart Petr Fiala .
“The use of troops and equipment demonstrated by Russia does not give hope that this will all end in the near future. Therefore, it is so important that we all insist together that the guns be silent, that the Russian Federation withdraw its troops. And that a solution be reached between Ukraine and Russia through negotiations,” Scholz said.
He noted that Kyiv asked the states to become guarantors of the future peace and added that “this is also an issue that we are already very specifically talking about with Ukraine.”
The head of the German government stressed that none of the goals of the invasion that Russia planned had been achieved. In his opinion, the Russian Federation intended to conquer all of Ukraine in a very short time. Therefore, the great achievement of the army and the people of Ukraine is that they stopped the offensive, Russia had to regroup its troops and is now focused on the battles in eastern Ukraine.
In response, Petr Fiala seeks to hold a summit on the post-war renewal of Ukraine when the terrible war is over.
“Of course, for this wish to come true, it is necessary … for the war and hostilities to end, but, unfortunately, this is still unrealistic,” the politician said.
He stressed that the Russian Federation commits incredible horrors every day. “Even those who were afraid of Russian aggressive actions never imagined that such war crimes could happen,” Fial said.
Therefore, the EU must maintain a tough, clear and unified position on supporting Ukraine and isolating Russia. This is the only way to stop Russian aggression.
