The EU proposed to revise the oil embargo against Russia. Thus, Hungary and Slovakia will be allowed to buy Russian oil until the end of 2024, and the Czech Republic until June 2024.
At the same time, other EU countries will gradually stop importing Russian oil before the end of this year, as originally planned.
Bloomberg writes about this, citing its own sources.
It is noted that Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are very dependent on Russian oil, but these countries account for a relatively small share of total EU imports from Moscow.
If these three countries buy Russian oil before 2024, they will be prohibited from selling imported goods to other countries under the proposed plans.
It should be noted that earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that for his country a new package of European Union sanctions, including an embargo on oil imports, is tantamount to an “atomic bomb” . And Budapest will not support a package of sanctions against Russian oil and gas.
Recall that in France they said that the EU countries will reach a consensus on an embargo on Russian oil by the end of this week .
