An outstanding Ukrainian footballer, and now the coach of Al Ain Serhiy Rebrov gave an interview after winning the UAE League Cup with his team.
For the 47-year-old native of Gorlovka, the trophy won was the first in the Emirates, where he has been working since 2021. After winning the final match of the tournament, Rebrov entered the field with the Ukrainian flag to celebrate success at the stadium with the children.
In an interview with the Snidanok z 1 + 1 program, the Ukrainian specialist said that during the decisive match there were many Ukrainians in the arena, whom he thanked for their support.
“There was a whole tribune of Ukrainians, Ukrainian children at the match. After the game, they were overwhelmed with emotions, I went up and took the Ukrainian flag. And the whole stadium applauded, I saw how the Ukrainians felt the support of all those present,” Rebrov said.
Rebrov also admitted that he is now diligently improving his knowledge of the Ukrainian language, since it is unpleasant for him to speak the language of the aggressor country. Sergei noted the importance of the Ukrainian language and has no doubt that all Russian-speakers in our country will eventually completely switch to Ukrainian.
“Now I speak Ukrainian. Every Ukrainian citizen now understands how important the Ukrainian language is. I am sure that we will all switch, because we understand how necessary it is not for the country, but for ourselves, because it is not very pleasant to speak the language of the country -aggressor,” Rebrov explained.
In addition, the Ukrainian coach said that he is trying to avoid the Russians who live in Dubai. In particular, the coach remembered an unpleasant incident that he had with a Russian in the Emirates.
“There are no conflicts or incidents anymore. Although once in the elevator I met a man who came out with a Russia T-shirt. I asked him what he wants to show with this. He replied:” Yes, it’s just a T-shirt. what is it, if people are dying, he got out of the elevator and ran somewhere.
There are no conflicts, but personally I have no desire to communicate with the Russians … but it is very difficult to ignore, as in this case with a T-shirt. Now no one is shouting that they are from Russia, they are hiding, the bulk of those in the Emirates understand what is happening,” Rebrov said.
