From May 1, dipped headlights on highways are not mandatory for Ukrainian drivers.
Because from May the summer edition of the Rules of the Road of Ukraine comes into force.
According to clause 9.8 of the Rules of the Road of Ukraine in the autumn-winter period, that is, from October 1 to May 1, due to short daylight hours and limited visibility, drivers must turn on the dipped headlights outside settlements. As noted in the rules, “From October 1 to May 1, daytime running lights must be turned on on all motor vehicles outside settlements, and in case of their absence in the vehicle design, low beam headlights. In conditions of insufficient visibility, motor vehicles can turn on high beam headlights or additional fog lamps, provided that this will not dazzle other drivers. For non-compliance with the rules, drivers face a fine of 425 to 510 hryvnia.
From May 1, when daylight hours last about 15 hours and visibility improves significantly, the rules allow driving on the highway without dipped headlights during the day and there is no penalty.
