On Monday, May 9, 2022, the church honors the memory of Hieromartyr Basil of Amasia.

He lived in the IV century in the city of Amasia (the capital of Pontus), where he was a bishop. An early Christian saint, a martyr who was beheaded through faith in Christ.

Hieromartyr Basil of Amasia participated in the Council of Ancyra, which took place in 314, and in the Council of New Caesarea in 320. The faithful servant of God was imprisoned by order of the emperor of the Eastern part of the Roman Empire, Licinius.

Basil was required to renounce Christianity, sacrifice to pagan gods and become the high priest. To this, the bishop delivered a strong speech in which he defended Christianity and the Lord God. For this, he was first cut off his head, then the body was thrown into the sea. Later, near Sinopia, his holy relics were discovered, from which a pleasant aroma emanated. Moreover, God miraculously connected the severed head to the body, although there was a trace of the sword on the neck. The relics of Bishop Basil were taken to Amasia and placed in the church that he had built.
