President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, after bilateral talks in Kyiv, took part in a video conference of the leaders of the G7 countries.

We are meeting on this day in this format to determine what needs to be done to stop Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Today, May 8, is a key day of remembrance for all the victims of World War II, for the fragility of peace and the inadmissibility of any misanthropic regimes. But what is a memory for others today, for our people every day, unfortunately, is just news.

Only yesterday in the village of Belogorovka, Lugansk region , 60 people were killed by a Russian bomb. Peaceful people. They hid from shelling in the building of an ordinary school, which was hit by a Russian airstrike.

To do this is to imitate exactly the evil that the Nazis brought to Europe. Rocket attacks on Odessa and our other cities are an imitation of how the Nazis tried to bomb and bombard the cities of Europe.

The deportation to Russia of more than 500 thousand Ukrainians and the so-called “filtration camps” that Russian troops set up in the occupied territory of Ukraine are an imitation of the deportations and concentration camps that the Nazis carried out in Europe.

Every day our people see and die from what should have been left in the distant past. Which definitely should not have returned to Europe after 77 years. But, unfortunately, I state: it has returned. That is why the solidarity of the entire free world has returned,” Zelensky said in his speech.

At the same time, the head of state noted that the solidarity of the entire free world had also returned. Therefore, such historical concepts as “Lend-Lease” and “Marshall Plan” returned.

Zelensky at the G7 meeting proposed specific tools that Ukraine needs now.

First, new steps in defense support for Ukraine

In particular, the President of Ukraine asked to provide the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS missile systems and other weapons that Ukraine asked the G7 countries.

Zelensky is convinced that it is on the battlefield that the fate of freedom in Europe is decided.

Second, new sanctions against Russia

“Ukraine will always be grateful to you for unprecedented sanctions in the interests of peace. But the war is still going on. So an ad hoc international group of experts, chaired by Michael McFaul and Andriy Yermak, developed an Action Plan to increase sanctions against Russia for this war. We need – I beg you – implement these sanctions and at least give a reverse analysis.

No export-import operations with Russia ! So far, Russia is spending the money it earns on destroying freedom in Ukraine and all of Europe. The democratic world must be principled in defending itself.

We must look for how to influence those politicians and those companies that help Russia circumvent sanctions. For example, we transport oil to Hungary through our pipeline. And the politicians of this country not only block the supply of fuel to us through their territory, but also try to slow down every sanction step against Russia, including the oil embargo . The free world should not allow itself to be manipulated.

Also, all Russian officials, employees of law enforcement agencies and – importantly – especially judges who work for tyranny, should be on the sanctions lists. They are not there yet.

Every Russian war criminal must be brought to justice and convicted through international cooperation.

We also need visa restrictions for Russian citizens so that they do not use the free world for entertainment and shopping. Everyone should fight against tyranny, not adapt to it ,” he said.

Third – financial support for Ukraine

“The scale of the Russian threat in Europe is now such that the return of such concepts as Lend-Lease and the Marshall Plan looks quite natural,” Zelensky said.

According to the president, Ukraine needs monthly support at the level of 5 to 7 billion dollars . When the war is over, more than 600 billion US dollars worth of what Russia has destroyed will need to be rebuilt.

“This is a lot for our state. It is impossible for Ukraine. But it is feasible for you. And this is not just an expense – for you. Financial assistance to Ukraine and assistance with post-war reconstruction is to prevent much greater losses of the free world in the future.

Russia wants to go further into Europe, and all the potential aggressors of the world, who also want to destroy the lives of their neighbors, are watching, watching right now, whether Russia will succeed and whether they will be able to repeat it.

We must organize the work to restore Ukraine after the war in such a way that we can apply the best experience of democratic countries and do it with maximum efficiency ,” Zelensky explained.

In particular, the president thanked the European Union and the UK for the decision to abolish duties and quotas in trade with Ukraine and called on other G7 countries to join this decision.

Fourth – to join the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine

He suggested using the format of patronage over specific cities, towns, regions and industries affected by the Russian invasion.

For example, it has already been proposed to Great Britain to take patronage over the restoration of the de-occupied Kyiv region.

“And today, given the German presidency of the Group of Seven, I propose to apply also the format of cooperation that has shown its effectiveness in the unification of the German state.

When it is clearly fixed – who is involved in the restoration and reintegration into the normal life of each region, each city, each community – this guarantees efficiency,” Zelensky is convinced.

According to him, such cooperation will strengthen economic and technological ties in Europe and will be beneficial not only to Ukraine, but also to other states, regions and companies.

Fifth, to guarantee stability in the global food market

“How many more millions of lives will be destroyed in dozens of countries in Africa and Asia as a result of food shortages and political chaos that will follow from rising food prices?”

We need an effective tool for world food security. And we propose to create it.

If we have an Organization of the Grain Exporting Countries that respects international law, values democracy and strives to protect human rights, including the right to life and secure well-being, we can bring stability to food supplies and win a historic victory over hunger. Ukraine is ready to present all the details of this proposal at the appropriate working level ,” the head of state said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that the leaders of the G7 states agreed on a special declaration of the summit, which recorded the historical solidarity of the participating countries and the willingness to work together until security and observance of international law for Ukraine are restored.

Security Guarantees

In conclusion, Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited the G7 countries – the largest democracies in the world – to become security guarantors for Ukraine.

“For this is precisely what guarantees security for the entire center and east of Europe. It means that it guarantees the confidence of your peoples that freedom always wins,” he summed up.

Trudeau’s position

In turn, the Prime Minister of Canada assured that his country would continue not only to provide assistance to Ukraine, but also to consolidate the efforts of international partners, including sanctions.

“On this anniversary of the victory in the war in Europe, we stand side by side and defend freedom, independence and international law. We will continue to impose strict sanctions, reduce dependence on energy resources from Russia and fight disinformation coming from the Russian Federation. We will also be there to overcome all the challenges that Putin creates, in particular, the food danger,” Trudeau said.
