A 30-year-old man drowned in Transcarpathia while trying to illegally cross the border with Romania, and his accomplice went missing.
In Transcarpathia, the border guards of the Bolshoy Bychkov branch found three men who were trying to illegally enter Romania. The men, seeing the law enforcement officers, hastened to swim across the Tisza River, which is now quite full-flowing.
This was announced today, May 9, in the Western Regional Department of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian border guards informed their Romanian colleagues and rescue services about the violators.
“As it turned out, one violator coped with the rapid flow of the Tisza, who reached the neighboring country alive. The body of his 30-year-old companion was found near the Romanian coast during joint search activities, in which the border guards of Ukraine and Romania, as well as rescuers, took part. The fate of another the border violator is still unknown,” the statement said.
The GNSU noted that already in May, the border guards of the Mukachevo detachment detained about two dozen men liable for military service who were trying to illegally cross the border. In addition, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, 5 cases of death of men have been recorded at the detachment’s site while trying to illegally get abroad in dangerous river or mountain areas.
