A $39.8 billion aid package for Ukraine could be voted on in the lower house of the US Parliament as early as May 10.
In the US House of Representatives, Democrats propose to vote for a $39.8 billion aid package to Ukraine on Tuesday, May 10. Earlier, President Joe Biden asked lawmakers to agree on a $33 billion bailout as soon as possible .
It is reported by Bloomberg.
According to the publication, lawmakers increased the president’s preliminary request, providing for an additional $3.4 billion in military assistance and another $3.4 billion in humanitarian assistance.
The decision to quickly agree on aid was made after the White House said that there would be enough money for arms supplies to Ukraine until the third week of May.
To expedite the process, the House of Representatives agreed to vote on this document separately from Biden’s other request for money to fight COVID-19. The next step should be a vote in the Senate.
However, this aid package has not yet been agreed upon by the Republicans. In order for it to be supported by the Senate (the upper house of parliament), at least ten votes of Republican senators are required.
Recall that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky told what additional assistance from the United States could be spent on.
