The first Russian military man will stand trial for the murder of a civilian in the Sumy region.
A 21-year-old Russian military man will be tried for the brutal murder of a resident of the village of Chupakhovka, Sumy region. The occupier shot an unarmed man on February 28.
This was announced today, May 11, by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova.
The Office of the Prosecutor General has already filed an indictment against Vadim Shishimarin, the commander of the military unit 32010 of the 4th Panzer Kantemirovskaya Division of the Moscow Region, to the court.
“The investigation established that on February 28, 2022, this 21-year-old Russian military man killed an unarmed resident of the Chupakhivka village in the Sumy region, who was carrying a bicycle along the side of the road. Before that, our Armed Forces defeated the convoy, in which Sergeant Shishimarin was. Colleagues fired at a private car with machine guns and took possession of it,” Venediktova said.
In a stolen car with wheels punched by them, the invaders drove into the village. On the way, they saw a man who was returning home and talking on the phone. One of the military ordered the sergeant to kill a civilian so that he would not report them to the Ukrainian defenders. He made several aimed shots through the open window of the car from a Kalashnikov assault rifle into the head of the 62-year-old victim. The man died on the spot just a few tens of meters from his home.
The suspect Shishimarin is currently in custody. According to Venediktova, prosecutors and investigators of the SBU have collected enough evidence of his involvement in violating the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder (part 2 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). For this crime, he faces 10 to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.
