In Poland, about 700 citizens of Ukraine lost social benefits after leaving for Ukraine.
Ukrainians in Poland who entered the country after a large-scale attack by the Russian Federation can receive payments under the 500+ program. But the money is provided if you are on the territory of Poland, if you go outside – the benefit is lost.
This is reported by rmf24.pl .
The Polish Social Insurance Sector ( ZUS) has begun checking whether people receiving Polish social benefits remain in the country. They exchange data with the border service.
Thus, ZUS receives information as soon as a citizen of Ukraine who has issued assistance crosses the border. And since the right to social payments is automatically terminated if a citizen is absent from Poland for more than 30 days, which are provided for 18 months, migrants lose the right to receive benefits, including 500 zł for children.
However, if it is easier with the Ukrainian border, it is much more difficult to control if Ukrainians go not to their homeland, but to other countries of the European Union. Due to the lack of border control, ZUS receives information about the movement of a person only if he is officially employed in another country or applies for benefits or social benefits there.
Therefore, in order not to lose the opportunity to receive social benefits in Poland, citizens should not stay outside the country for more than 30 days during the provided 18 months of legal stay.
As of April 20, ZUS accepted 318,000 applications for child benefit payments from citizens of Ukraine. The 500+ benefit is available to people who legally crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border after February 23, 2022 due to hostilities, received a PESEL number, opened a bank account in Poland, have a Polish phone number and email address.
Recall that Poland is preparing amendments to the law on assistance to refugees from Ukraine .
